Clare Rowson, Regional Director for the Midlands and leader of the local judging panel says: “This is an outstanding outfit that continues to grow and add more strings to its bow. One loyal customer has said it is “possibly one of the best food shopping experiences you could have” and it is easy to see why. The best of our local produce is represented here, from Ragley game to Churchfields ice-cream, and the tea-shop and gift shop mean that a trip to Hillers is a lot more than simply a food shop. The warm welcome from the dedicated staff is also a major factor, and their dedication to supporting our farmers and growers is an inspiration” http://www.hillers.co.uk/

2. Best Shop / PO Category: The Poppin
Jacksons Orchard
Long Marston
Stratford-on-Avon
Warwickshire
Clare says: “With Post Offices increasingly under threat it is wonderful to be able to highlight the huge community-importance of a well-run branch, and Long Marston is a great example, having inspired several nominations. It is the heart of the community run entirely by volunteers and you can ask for most things and they will try and get it for you. You can also find out everything that is happening in the village and have a really good chat. Post Offices are the hearts of many communities, and the Poppin proves it.”

3. Best Diversification Category: Heath Farm Meats

Nr Kidderminster

Clare says: “Clive and Clair Gittens have successfully switched from traditional farming to a butchery with home produced beef, pork and lamb. All the animals they use are bred, reared and slaughtered by them (a rarity in these days of gold-plated EU regulations), and all meat is cut by hand meaning you can have any joint cut to your requirements.  Clive and Clair have a passion and determination to fly the flag for local produce and their positive attitude shines through in everything they do – this popular couple deserve all the praise they get.”

Clare says: “It is a real pleasure to shop here.  The meat is fantastic and there is no need to go anywhere else for the week's meals. The business is constantly looking at new ideas and recipes and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and dedicated to their jobs. People come from miles around because they know the quality and shopping experience cannot be beaten.  This is a well established family butchers who have been trading for 25 years this year, yet the business is continuing to move with the times with a great mix of the traditional and the contemporary. Clarke’s is the reason our rural heritage has a place in our future and that is well worth celebrating.” http://www.clarkesqueniborough.co.uk/
